As any pet owner knows, there are no lengths that you won't go to for your little one.
They become a part of the family and, like you would for a child, you take on the role of protecting them and ensuring that they stay happy and healthy.
It's a role that no pet owner takes lightly even if your pet is as little as, say, a fish.
Australian Emma Marsh, 21, proved this when her ranchu goldfish Conquer sucked up an oddly shaped pebble and got it lodged in his throat.
Marsh rushed Conquer to Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Services for help and the vets got right to work on the little guy.
After an anesthetic agent was put into his bowl's water, vets took a better look at the stone, which was lodged tightly in Conquer's throat.
Using a long metal device, vets were able to dislodge the pebble and slowly pull it out through the fish's mouth.
He was then moved to a different tank to start his recovery and vets kept him overnight for observation.
Conquer did fine and is now swimming around, minus one uncomfortable stone.
All in all, it was a $400 experience for Marsh, who explained that she took such measures because she treats her fish just like she would treat any other pets.
One-year-old ranchu goldfish Conquer was swimming around in his tank when a small, black pebble became lodged in his throat. Owner Emma Marsh quickly rushed Conquer to Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Services for help.
Vets added an anesthetic agent to Conquer's water in order to sedate the little guy before they attempted to remove the pebble.
Vets used a long metal device to inspect the stone and begin pulling it out of Conquer's mouth. They noted that it was lodged quite firmly in there!
The stone was finally (and carefully) removed from Conquer's throat!
It was quite a big pebble for such a little guy to get caught in there. No wonder he couldn't get it out himself.
Conquer was moved into a different tank for his recovery and spent one (expensive) night for observation. Thankfully, he's doing great!
