It is estimated that 250,000 bulls are killed every year in the bullfighting industry. Forty thousand of those tragic deaths take place in Europe.
Bullfighting dates back to 711 A.D., with the first official bullfight, called "corrida de toros," being held in honor of the coronation of King Alfonso VIII.
Just because this tradition has been around for thousands of years does not make it OK. Bulls do not want to fight, even if you might think that based on their rough exteriors.
In fact, one man knew that the only way to prove bulls have a soft side was to give a bull the opportunity to show it.
Christophe Thomas, of Rennes, France, bought a bull at auction that was destined to become a fighter. Not only did he save this bull's life, he is teaching the world a lesson.
In the video below, we see all the proof to Chrisophe's theory. His bull, named Fodjen, would much rather snuggle than fight. You can see how loving this bull truly is by watching the video!
If you support animals being freed from fighting and other terrible circumstances, you will also love this story about a dog once used in a fighting ring becoming a lifesaver.
