An adorable golden retriever is recovering after being found this week in Lancaster, CA with gruesome injuries.
Some residents saw the 1-year-old dog nicknamed Fergus wandering the streets with third-degree burns on his back and brought him to the Lancaster Shelter.
The Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue later picked up the dog and transferred him to the Animal Medical Center of Southern California. Veterinarians believe a person poured battery acid down the dog’s spine. Thankfully, Fergus is responding well to antibiotics. And despite his injuries, the lovable pooch is seen is the video wagging his tail and giving kisses.
“The vet said he is really doing beautifully for what was done to him,” the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue wrote on Facebook. “He is a loving, forgiving boy, and in time all his wounds, inside and out will heal.”
Authorities are still trying to find the person who hurt Fergus. Dr. Alan Schulman with the Animal Medical Center of Southern California wants the person responsible to be persecuted, similarly to the man who made headlines for taping a dog's mouth shut.
“Unfortunately, we see these types of malicious injuries to dogs at times,” he told KTLA. “You’ve got to be able to prosecute these people to the fullest extent of the law.”
A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help pay for the dog’s medical bills.
