Geralee Olson-Tripplet made a mistake that many women fear. She took off her 2-karat wedding ring to clean her house but soon after she realized the ring was missing.
After thinking about it, Geralee figured the ring must have fell into the trash. "It was a deflated feeling — pretty much helpless, hopeless, but I never gave up hope," she said.
Finding a lost wedding ring is no easy task; when Rhonda Thill lost a wedding ring, she needed an entire group of bikers to help her.
She wasn't going to give up that easily. She prayed to St. Anthony — the saint of finding things and lost people — then she called Bruce Roggenkamp, the owner of the sanitation company.
"I kind of figured it's a needle in a haystack. It's at the landfill. There's hundreds of tons that go in there every day. There's no chance," he told her.
However, Geralee realized that because of a recent storm, the trash from her neighborhood contained massive amounts of damaged tree branches. The garbage truck ran behind schedule that day because of the extra pickups and when it arrived at the landfill, it was closed.
This meant that the truck wouldn't be unloaded until the following morning. Geralee and her husband drove to the dump. The sanitation workers were ready to dump about five tons of trash off the truck.
Geralee kept her eyes out for her bag, white with black ties. After searching there it was, there was the bag. "I knew those were our trash bags," she screamed.
