Dad Puts Glove In His Son’s Casket, Then He Gets Replacement After Mailing In 59-Year-Old Letter

Saving used ticket stubs, wrappers, or old receipts might give you the title of a hoarder. But it might also give you the title of a winner, apparently.

Darwin Day was cleaning out some clutter when he found an old Bazooka gum wrapper and contest stub.

The contest entailed one simple step: filling out the correct scores of two baseball games from the year 1957.

Although he assumed that this would no longer be a valid contest entry, he mailed it into Bazooka executives anyway as a silly joke, in his mind.

But when they got it, they decided to honor it. There was no expiration date, and it was a shocking piece of mail to open. A vintage contest winner and a sweet letter from this man changed the expected fate of this Bazooka paper.

Now, 59 years after the contest should have actually taken place, Day gets the prize he rightfully won: a baseball mitt.

And it just so happens that this man deserved this glove more than you'd think. He'd put his own glove in his son's casket after he passed away as a sweet sentiment.

Although he'll never have that mitt back, and he'll never have his son back, as he gives tours at the Texas Rangers' Globe Life Park in Arlington, he now has one more great story to tell.

This is a story for all ages.
