The nerve of her. Katherine Stonick met a man on a popular dating website. The two arranged to have their first date in person at an Italian restaurant called Finalmente Trattoria.
During the date, Stonick — who told her date her name was Sophie — excused herself to the bathroom. While her date wasn't looking she told the manager she and her "boyfriend" loved the restaurant so much and asked if she could have a $300 gift card. She then charged the gift card to her date's credit card without his knowledge.
The very next day, Stonick had the nerve to go back to the restaurant to use the gift card with another man. Then she returned the day after that for her birthday.
The date called the police and provided them with a license plate number. Restaurant workers and the man were able to positively identify Stonick from a lineup.
After getting a warrant for Stonick's arrest she was charged with sixth-degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card. She was then released from jail on a $10,000 bail.
This story teaches us a lesson: Be careful who you meet online, they may not be exactly who they say they are.
At least in this case the poor date had a license plate number to get some justice, many don't even have that!
