I love this craft because it is quick, easy, and, most importantly, very cheap. It's a fun little project that is fully functional when completed. Brought to us by Sarah from Seventeen's "NailedIt" series, this one promises to be foolproof. Sarah specializes in correcting all of those Pinterest fail foibles, and finding the flaws in common DIY tutorials and correcting them. You may have seen this doily lantern project floating around the internet, but Sarah's version guarantees that you'll actually be able to make it this time.
All you need are a few doilies, a balloon, Elmer's glue, a paintbrush, flour, a hanging light, and Vaseline or petroleum jelly. First, blow the balloon to the size you would like your lantern. Cover the balloon in petroleum jelly. In a separate bowl, mix the glue with flour and water. Stir the mixture together. Place the doilies on the balloon, then coat them with glue mixture. Let the doilies dry, and get ready for the fun part. Using a needle, pop the balloon in the center. The doilies should have formed a harden sphere that is ready to use. Insert your hanging light through the hole. Lastly, be sure to use a bulb that doesn't get too hot. Sarah recommends 60 watts or less, or to use an LED light that doesn't heat up at all.
