When you think of a marriage proposal, how does it play out in your mind?
It's going to be different for everyone, depending on what kind of person they are. Some people will think of a beautiful, fancy dinner, with the man on one knee as the chocolate lava cake comes out of the kitchen. Others will think of a beautiful spring day and a walk through the park, with a man on one knee under the shade of an oak tree. Some people might think of a couple jumping out of a plane together, with the man pulling out a ring mid-air, only to then get down on one knee when they touch down.
You probably see the common factor here: a man on one knee.
We've been conditioned to think that this is the only way for two people to decide to get married, with the man asking the woman if she'd like to be his wife. But that's just ridiculous! Who's to say that the woman can't take the initiative if her boyfriend can't seem to work up the guts to do it himself? In fact, my mother is the one who proposed to my father, casually over dinner as if it were just another topic of conversation. My dad laughed, thinking she was joking at first, but she was oh-so serious!
When this man gets home one day, he's in for one big surprise…
