Newlyweds Andrew Nixon and Julie Stroyne left their wedding reception at around midnight. They headed to their nearby hotel when Stroyne saw it. As they were about to enter the hotel lobby, there was a woman on a bench who was barely breathing.
“We were just about to go through the doors,” Stroyne told CBS. “And then we heard somebody scream, ‘Does anybody know CPR? Is anybody a doctor’?'”
In their tuxedo and wedding gown, they rushed over to the woman. That's when Stroyne's instincts took over. The bride was a trauma nurse at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. It didn't matter what she was wearing, she rolled up her sleeves, and began to perform CPR.
“I looked over, and I think my nursing instincts took over,” she recalls, “And I bolted over to the bench to see if she was all right. I started compressions right away. They told me she didn’t have a pulse.”
Slowly, the woman began to breathe again. She began to mumble and was even able to stand up. Thanks to Stroyne's quick thinking, a life was saved!
Who needs to look perfectly primped when you can be a hero instead? Needless to say, this is one wedding day Stroyne nor Nixon will ever forget!
