When was the last time you got something good at a garage sale? They're usually very hit or miss. One visit, you'll find the perfect dining set for your house. But the next trip, you'll find a lot of socks.
Thirty years ago, this woman was looking for a table for her house, so she stopped at a local garage sale to scour the pickings. She found this table and thought the shape was perfect. The seller was looking for $30, but she only had $25. She got the bargain and went home with the table!
When Antiques Roadshow was in her area, she decided to take the old table down to find out what it was really worth, as she had some suspicions. She had no clue that her table was actually a vintage Seymour card table, circa 1794. The Seymours were distinguished cabinet makers, who only worked with the wealthiest families at the time.
Much like this man who found out his old blanket was a Navajo chief's blanket worth $500,000, she was in for a shock on the worth of her old table. When the appraiser asks how much she thinks it's worth, she suggested $20,000. She's not even close. Times that by 10 — the appraiser says the table is worth about $200,000 to $225,000!
Are you going to search your entire house later today to see if your valuables might be worth more than you thought? I know I am!
