What is love? No better yet, what is marriage? For starts, it's a commitment, but for no one is it ever perfect. There are few love stories that don't have a turning point where one partner is forced to choose: are they all in or all out? Rebecca Duvall can speak to that from experience. When she and her husband Robert got married, they were certain that this time it was true love. But with raising three children, work, and home becoming more demanding, the couple soon grew apart.
“I felt that there was something going on that was keeping us apart. There was something not right. But I chose to ignore it,” said Rebecca. Then she checked Robert’s phone and saw text messages to another woman. He was telling her all the same things he had told her, she was heartbroken. By the time she discovered the affair, Robert had already ended the four-month relationship. The pair began marriage counseling, but Rebecca could not forgive him. Then Robert’s kidney began to fail. When he needed a donor, she refused. She was still angry.
“At this point, it started coming out that I had not truly forgiven him… He didn’t deserve the loving care that I was supposed to give him as a wife,” said Rebecca. When it came down to life or death, she forgave him. Rebecca got tested and was a perfect, harmonious match. Today, the couple is stronger than ever.
“I forgave him and I meant it in my heart. I really meant it sincerely, from deep within,” she said.
