Gabriel Cordova was terrified while riding a TTC public bus in Ontario, Canada. The high school student was shocked by the driver's outrageous conduct. We've seen incidents of explosive road rage before, but never a public servant being so careless.
The driver was eating a bag of chips, driving with his wrist, and had one foot on the dashboard. Cordova feared for her safety; the road they were on was already under construction as it is.
“Eglinton is under so much construction and rickety enough as it is,” said Cordova.
The teen was smart enough to record the misconduct and the TCC was quick to handle the situation. While drivers are permitted a snack or a drink, doing so should not put passengers at risk.
“Eating in that fashion would not be something we could condone," said spokesperson Brad Ross. "A foot up on the dash is not a safe position for operators.”
The TTC are investigating the situation and plan to deal with the driver "appropriately." While distracted driving laws punish those who use handheld electronics on the road, the driver could be charged with careless driving, and can face fines up to $2,000 and jail time.
Fortunately, no one on the bus was hurt, and Cordova's video may be the thing that prevents this driver from putting passengers in danger again.
