On one fateful night, 28-year-old Erika Wright was out with friends and became the designated driver. She carefully made sure everyone got home safely. However, when she was five minutes away from her house, a "wall of water" swept up her car like a raft. In October 2015, historic floods ravaged South Carolina. Erika was one of the lucky ones who survived. When a cement block and a tree hit her windshield and cracked it, she was able to kick it out and escape. As the current carried her, Erika fought for her for four long hours until help came. A rescue crew of three brave men saved her, but they weren't able to save the man in the car who had crashed next to her, Sampson Pringle. Even now, four months later, this has been difficult for Erika to accept.
“It’s a daily talk I have in my mind with God," Erika said. "Just trying to figure out, why did I make it out? I wish things were different. I wish it never happened. You’re out here and everything is happening. And then you survive and the person next to you doesn’t. So it’s like why? You don’t know why.”
While WBTV's Mary King was interviewing her, something amazing happened. As they walked through the woods, they suddenly found the wreckage from Erika's car. As she dug through it she found something — a sign: it was her golden cross, family heirloom, still perfectly in tact.
"Oh, my God," Erika said, in shock. “It’s my cross… God is really here.”
