When the movie Ghostbusters was released in theaters in 1984, producers had no idea that the movie would generate a cult following that would span generations. Indeed, the movie was such a success, that a sequel to the hit film was made in 1989. Though born just a few years after the movies came out, I have been a fan of the Ghostbusters franchise for as long as I remember, after having been introduced to it by my parents. And still today, the title generates unparalleled excitement among movie buffs.
The '80s classic gave us a quartet of scientists portrayed by a team of comedic actors, including Saturday Night Live alums Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray. But this year, the film's high-anticipated reboot has given us much more to be excited about. Not only is it the revival of a much-loved franchise, but it features several fan-favorites in its all-star cast. And this year, our four scientists ready to save New York once again are all females! Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Melissa McCarthy are our four heroes, joined by none other than Australian actor Chris Hemsworth.
Buzz about the movie has been gaining momentum for the past few months, but now, Ghostbusters fans can rejoice! The trailer is finally here.
The film's release is set for July 2016.
