Gardener Reunites Late Soldier’s Family With POW Bracelet

One day, Annette was gardening in the strawberry patch in her backyard. While she was thinning the patch, she discovered a hard objected covered in dirt. When she picked it up and wiped the dirt away, she noticed that it was a bracelet. An even closer look revealed the inscription. It belonged to a soldier named Jonathan. The inscription stated his name, rank, and the day that he died in 2003. Annette was in Minnesota, but the bracelet read Katy, TX. She had no idea how it ended up in her garden.

So she tracked down Jonathan's family and put the bracelet in the mail with a handwritten note.

"How it came to be in my strawberry patch in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is beyond me. Perhaps the compost from our city? Anyway, my strawberry patch now has a name & forever shall be known as Jonathan's Patch. Thanks for sharing such a little bit of your son's valiant life," Annette said. Jonathan's mother Barbara Rozier received it. She was touched by the whole thing.

“It sounds like something I would do. I would try to track them down because I’m a mother," Rozier said. "To some people, they don’t have much to hold onto when their child has been or killed or has died. My first thought was, ‘This woman is a mother and she’s thinking like a mother and trying to track her down.’”

While they still don't have a clue how it wound up so many miles away, they're happy to have this piece of their hero to hold onto.
