Sometimes it's hard to believe when news of animal abuse or neglect gets out. Although pets can drive us crazy sometimes, they are just innocent creatures that want nothing more than our love and attention.
All animals, big and small, deserve the opportunity to lead a long, happy life — much like these abused elephants that have finally found a forever home.
Employees at the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) in Palm Beach County, FL, found an unexpected surprise one day while processing garbage at their facility. A rustling sound caught their attention, and upon further investigation, they found four kittens wandering among the trash and yard waste.
The SWA employees kicked into action and made sure the kittens were safely transferred to the capable hands at the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue. Upon arrival at the animal rescue center, the workers went straight to work.

Sanitation workers in Palm Beach County, FL, were shocked when they discovered four kittens struggling to survive among the yard waste of the station.
According to Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue's Facebook page, "The kittens were found at the Boynton Beach transfer station, which is piled with closed bags, ripped bags, and dumped debris."
No one knows how they may have ended up there.
The kittens were only 5 weeks old, and were separated from their mother far too soon. Luckily for these little fur balls, the sanitation workers found them in the knick of time and transferred them to the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue.
The animal rescue workers sprang into action, giving the poor kitties expert medical care and plenty of love.
And while these kittens may have had a rough beginning, they are now certain to have a very happy ending. Despite the fact that they were starving and suffering from parasites, each of the kittens is expected to make a full recovery!
Since the little ones have officially gone from being someone's trash to someone's treasure, the amazing folks at the rescue center decided to name the kittens after precious gemstones.
The three male kittens are named Jet, Garnet, and Topaz. The little girl is named Ruby.
The rescue group has continued to share updates on the kittens' recoveries. Each of them is almost ready for adoption, and they're all starting to behave and play just like normal kittens should.
According to the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue's Facebook page: "We cannot say for certain these kittens were intentionally thrown in the trash, but we can say, thanks to some heroic people, their lives have been spared, and they are on the road to recovery and a forever home."
Each of these precious "gems" is lucky to be alive. But thanks to the kind hearts of the SWA workers and the efforts of animal rescue employees, these kitties now have a life of warm shelter and love to look forward to.
