Researchers Believe Many Americans Are Showering Wrong!

Most of us have a similar hygiene routine with a few of our own personal tweaks. The majority of us, at some point of each day, whether morning or night, take a shower. We wash our faces and all those places where the sun don't shine, but experts are finding that these standard practices may not be the best for our health.

“We are actually in communion with a community of bacteria,” Dr. Shirley Madhere told CBS NY. “These bacteria and microorganisms, also virus and fungi, actually help our bodies to work the way that they do.”

Showering too frequently can strip the body of the bacteria it needs to maintain a healthy immune system. It can cause individuals to catch colds more frequently, and can even cause skin conditions like acne and eczema. You might be aware that tap water isn't so clean, and areas with hard water and high levels of calcium can make these skin conditions even worse. So what's the best way to shower? Quick and cool.

Experts suggest showering for no longer than 15 minutes, using warm to cool water. Wash your face gently with a mild cleanser instead of soap, which can cause premature aging by drying out the skin. Be sure that your loofas, sponges, and razors are clean. Try taking supplements, as directed by a physician, that support the immune system and healthy bacteria like vitamin C and probiotics.
