One day Joi and her husband David were driving. Suddenly, Joi felt this overwhelming feeling that something would be wrong with the baby she was carrying. David thought she was being a nervous mother.
When baby Andrew was born, doctors deemed him healthy. Then one hour later, Joi looked into Andrew's eyes and could tell that something was terribly wrong.
"I remember looking at my son laying in a bassinet and looking at his eyes. I told my husband that nothing was there behind those eyes. He just had a blank stare," Joi said.
Moments later, a nurse looked at Andrew and said he was turning gray. Andrew's brain was hemorrhaging, causing grand mal seizures. The poor baby had to be revived around 14 times. Doctors were certain that at best Andrew would be developmentally challenged and at worst not live beyond infancy.
Joi and David were so devastated they didn't bother to get close to Andrew because it would be too heartbreaking. They were certain he was going to die.
"I could not give them any hope whatsoever," said their doctor, Dr. Carlos Monzon. But three days later, Joi felt another premonition. Something in her gut told her that Andrew would be OK. They decided to bring the baby home from the hospital to care for him there. A few days later, Joi looked into his crib. Andrew was holding his bottle. Only 3 months old and already holding his bottle!
His seizures suddenly stopped. Then at 6 months old, an MRI revealed that his condition was gone.
"Medically to my knowledge, I have no clear-cut explanation," Dr. Monzon said.
