Summer is finally here, and not only am I excited to get out of the house, but my puppy is as well.
She loves getting exercise outside in the backyard, but her favorite part of the day (and mine) is going for a walk in the neighborhood. Normally, I would grab her leash and we would be good to go… until I saw this. I never thought that taking her for a walk could be so dangerous!
This extremely vital test has been going viral on the internet — in fact, it's been shared over 100,000 times on Facebook. I couldn't believe I hadn't already been doing this. I will absolutely never take her for a walk in the summer again without doing this safety test first – thank God I know. And luckily, it only takes five seconds.

In summertime, sidewalks, pavement, and even beach sand can reach extremely high temperatures. These temperatures are not safe for your dog to walk on. But how do you know if it's okay or not?
Simply follow the five-second rule. Place the back of your hand against the sidewalk, pavement, or sand. If you aren't able to hold it for five seconds, it is too hot to walk your dog.
This easy and effective trick will keep your favorite pets safe this summer, and it only takes five seconds of your time!
