They say that dogs often look like their owners, but Gill Daley and her furry friend Cola take it to the next level.
Dalley suffered an infection that caused her to lose both of her legs in 2004, but is a hero for more than just overcoming her life-changing injury.
She is also the co-founder of a charity called Soi Dog based in Phuket, Thailand, where she and her husband retired. The couple is originally from Leeds in the U.K.
Soi Dog's mission statement is "to improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to end animal cruelty, and to ultimately create a society without homeless animals."
The charity's objective is what brought Cola and Gill together in the first place. Gill told The Mirror: "The moment I saw Cola, there was an instant bond between us. It was quite incredible, like nothing I've seen before."
Cola, like Gill, was missing two of his front legs. Unlike Gill, Cola was the victim of abuse when his neighbor chopped the puppy's legs off as revenge for chewing on his shoes.
Gill recognized the challenge and explained: "I knew immediately that not only did I have to help him, but that I was in a unique position to be able to. I knew exactly what he was going through — I'd been through it myself."
Not only has Cola been saved from cruelty, he has also found a companion for life who truly understands him.
In fact, their bond is so deep that Gill recognized when Cola was having trouble with the initial pair of prosthetic limbs that he was fitted for.
Now Cola has received a new and better pair of prosthetic legs that allow him to enjoy the same activities as any other four-legged friend.
Better yet, his new limbs match the ones belonging to his owner, which Cola seems to understand and brings him and Gill even closer together.
