The thing about being a parent is, for the most part, you know ahead of time that you are going to be one.
There are those circumstances where someone becomes a parent without their knowledge. But it's not all that often you just become one, spur of the moment!
For Elliot Lombardo, that is exactly what happened. Except his new children were not two healthy human babies. Instead, he became the "mom" of two squirrels.
After accidentally cutting down the tree two little squirrels lived in, the critters immediately became attached to their new mama, Elliot!
But these squirrels are a little different than the squirrels I see in my yard. Elliot's new children, Apple and Moses, can jump really high!
I often see squirrels scurrying on tree branches and getting too close to cars for my comfort, but did you know there are around 280 different species of squirrels?
They are born blind, but when they do get their sight, that is what helps them become so graceful. Their big, wide eyes help them climb trees and avoid predators.
