Bella's sweet brown eyes are warm enough to melt even the coldest of hearts. She enjoys rolling around in the grass, sniffing around the house, and playing with other dogs. In essence, she's your typical pug. However, there is one trait that differentiates Bella from all of the other dogs on the block.
Despite the 6-year-old pug's upbeat personality and zest for life, Bella has developed a disability involving both of her front elbows.
“I've never seen anything like Bella,” Gwenn, the CEO/CFO of Pug Nation explains.
”She's one-third penguin, because she walks only on her back legs like a penguin,” she says, and continues with, “She's one-third seal because when she's on the ground she kind of moves and looks like a seal. And then, of course, she's one-third pug.”
Gwenn, who has taken Bella into Pug Nation in order to find her a home, says that Bella wasn't always like this. Her past owner did not let her legs heal properly after breaking for first time. Unfortunately, after having another surgery to fix her front legs, it was evident that her elbows could not be fixed. Her owner finally relinquished Bella into her vet's care, and she ended up in Gwenn's Pug Nation rescue facility.
Bella does not allow her troubles to hold her back from living the best life she can.
Her disability hasn't stopped her from being loved, either. Bella now lives with Wendy, her new foster mom. Wendy already has a 12-year-old pug and has a certain fondness for the breed itself.
"She loves those walks. When you pull out the leash, she knows it's time to go," Wendy beams.
Bella even has a special harness leash that lets her run around on her hind legs, without putting any unnecessary pressure on her front elbows!
Challenges may come and go, but this pug just can't be stopped!
