Dogs have a very keen eye and nose.
I had a beagle growing up that could spot a rabbit from what felt like a mile away. It was probably only 500 feet, but to a kid that feels like a lot.
When a dog's attention is piqued, they are very curious and will follow through with their nose. Sometimes it is frustrating for their owners, but other times it can wind up saving a life!
While out with his family and dog Sissy, this man noticed something struggling in the water as Sissy swam toward it. When he looked closely as Sissy approached the tiny object, he realized it was a turtle.
The turtle was caught in discarded fishing line in a New Orleans lake and was struggling to breathe.
But the man's quick actions helped save this young turtle! Sissy inspected the turtle afterward to make sure everything was OK and she seemed to sign off on the rescue before the turtle was released back into the water.
It is very important to be careful where you throw away garbage. A body of water is never the place to toss trash. If you happen to drop something in the water an animal can get trapped in, you really should do your best to get it out.
