For those of us we pets, we can only imagine how devastating it would be to find out that this furry companion was taken away from us. Those of us unfortunate to have experienced this know the pain associated to losing something akin to a family member.
Five years ago, Colorado resident Kalli Mahaffey thought she would never see her St. Bernard, named Missy, again. She says that she let the dog out in her backyard to use the bathroom.
Then a split second later, the dog was gone, taken away by a thief.
Her family searched high and low for the dog, at shelters and on the streets, but with no result. Kalli's daughter was especially heartbroken: she had become quite fond of the dog, who was also going to be trained as a service dog to help her with her developmental disabilities.
Fast-forward five years, and the same St. Bernard is picked up by animal control in Missouri, and brought the a groomer. This is how her microchip was discovered, and how the family was able to be contacted – despite only having outdated information on it.
Brandi Cross, who contacted the Mahaffeys, says that the dog is healthy now, without any major illnesses. A volunteer by the name of Melissa has volunteered to drive the pup home. That's a whopping 900 miles!
Please SHARE if you know that updated microchips can make a world of difference!
