It’s so heartbreaking to think that there are still wolves out there that are being bred and raised in captivity. "We get a lot of wolves from people who think wolves make good pets," says Tonya Littlewolf, the founder of Wolf Mountain Sanctuary.
"A lot of people just feed them dog food,” she continues, demonstrating how she feeds her wolves raw meat. If provided the wrong diet, many of these beautiful creatures won’t grow properly — and that’s a widespread issue.
While the rescued wolves at this sanctuary will never be able to live in the wild after all they’ve been through, Littlewolf is working hard to ensure they’re provided for. Not only that, she wants to raise awareness about what wolves really need.
"People say they're vicious — they kill just to kill. Both of them are wrong."
Much like the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center, which pairs wolves with veterans suffering from PTSD, as well as the incredible efforts of the Wolf Creek Habitat and Sanctuary, Littlewolf hopes to give these wild animals a voice in a world where they don’t have one.
"You look into their eyes, and you can see your soul. It's so beautiful."
If anyone is fit to lead a pack of wolves into a fulfilling life, it’s Tonya Littlewolf.
